EDC Ecuador Ltd. and MachalaPower Cía. Ltda, subsidiaries of Noble Energy, are supporting community development in rural areas of southern Ecuador. Since 2000, the communities of, Bajo Alto, La Puntilla and Tendales, have benefited from our programs. Annual activities are planned by the Community Relations Program in conjunction with the local communities and their Governments. All activities are joint efforts that seek to improve the quality of life for the residents of these areas. Our primary focus is on the following areas:

• Provide three additional grade school teachers to supplement local education programs
• Provide scholarship programs for High School and University students (The local school systems only provide education through the ninth grade.)
• Provide adult education programs
• Provide school supplies for approximately 300 students each year
• Provide environment conservation education
• Provide summer camp for local children
• Provide assistance local school systems with facility construction and maintenance
• Periodically provide computers to local schools

• Provide the community health center with full time staff – comprised of a doctor, a dentist and two medical assistants
• Fully equip and stock the medical center with medical and pharmaceutical supplies
• Provide operational and administrative support to maintain and operate the facilities
• Provide assistance in enhancing medical buildings
• Provide community health and disease awareness presentations

Provide materials, equipment, transportation and technical assistance so that the communities have facilities that improve the quality of life in the local area

• Bajo Alto - Provided a new water and sewage system, enlargements and upgrades to the local school, upgrades to medical facilities, a community/sports facility, new community park, a new firehouse and various upgrades to community buildings
• La Puntilla - Provided water and sanitation facilities, a medical center, boat dock and assistance to establish a tourism industry
• Tendales - Provided a new library, pharmacy and upgrades to various community buildings
• Machala - Provided local law enforcement officials with new equipment to enhance police protection

Offer residents of the local fishing communities an alternative means to earn a living and support their families

• Established sewing centers in Bajo Alto and Tendales
• Helped residents to establish and maintain facilities to raise livestock; including veterinary assistance
• Assisted with the creation of agricultural projects
• Provided assistance and training to set up a bakery in Bajo Alto
• Provided training and educational assistance so that the beach communities of Bajo Alto and La Puntilla can enhance their tourism industries.

• Provide the local communities with the knowledge and skills to maintain the mangrove (trees and large shrubs that are native to tropical saline coastal environments)
• Helped the local residents set up nurseries to reforest the mangrove
• Helping with the creation of sewage systems to reduce contamination of the mangrove
• Assisted with the creation of clam conservation programs
• Assisting with projects to encourage ecotourism
• Providing educational programs to help residents maintain clean rivers
