In the United States, the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulf Coast region
are prolific yet mature producing basins. Traditional shallow shelf
wells in the Gulf of Mexico can be highly productive; however, they
also have rapid decline rates, high finding and development costs
and, as the area continues to mature, smaller reserve potential.
In response, Noble Energy is applying the latest drilling and seismic
technologies in new and innovative ways in order to shift its offshore
investment focus toward deeper targets in the shelf and to deepwater
exploration. Applying an equally innovative approach to the equally
mature onshore Gulf Coast, Noble Energy has identified high potential
areas in which to explore, including the acquisition of substantial
land positions and investment in proprietary 3D seismic. The company
has established strong Gulf Coast acreage positions with multiple
prospects, where deeper drilling could lead to larger discoveries.
Onshore
Since the 1930s, Noble Energy has been actively engaged in exploration, exploitation and development of onshore oil and gas properties. Operations are focused on three regions: 1) the Gulf Coast, 2) the Mid-Continent and 3) the Rocky Mountains. With a large acreage position and significant exploration potential, the Gulf Coast is a domestic growth area, while the Mid-Continent and Rocky Mountain regions provide stable, long-term production.
Offshore
Since 1968, Noble Energy has been active in the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf of Mexico continues to be one of the company’s most important areas. Noble Energy’s domestic offshore division produces and explores for crude oil and natural gas in the Gulf of Mexico’s conventional shelf, deep shelf (geological objectives below 15,000 feet) and deepwater. The conventional shelf is a highly productive, but maturing, basin. The relatively less mature deep shelf and deepwater afford Noble Energy with high-impact exploration opportunities.
