Climate Change
Climate change has become the subject of an important public policy debate. While climate change remains a complex issue, scientific research suggests that an increase in greenhouse gas emissions may pose a risk to society and our environment. Noble Energy is dedicated to minimizing its environmental footprint.
Noble Energy’s Initiatives to Address Climate ChangeIn addition to our involvement in the voluntary EPA Natural GAS STAR program, we have formed a Climate Change Committee that meets periodically to review the research, policy and regulatory elements of climate change. The committee also provides oversight of Noble’s emission inventory and identifies potential reduction initiatives. Throughout the company’s operations, we look for opportunities to minimize our environmental footprint. The framework for our emission reduction strategy is as follows:
Emissions Inventory
- First inventory performed in 2006
- Direct and indirect emission inventories performed annually
- Implementation of Environmental Information Management System
Reducing Emissions
- Green completions and flow backs
- Utilization of lift systems to reduce venting
- Introduction of hybrid vehicles
- Conversion of fleet vehicles to clean-burning natural gas
Developing Operational Reduction Initiatives
- Equipment replacement and modifications
- Installation of emission controls
- Research into new technologies
- Pad drilling to consolidate wells and production
Carbon Disclosure Project
Noble Energy participated in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in 2009 and 2010. The CDP's mission is to collect and distribute high quality information that motivates investors, corporations and governments to take action to measure, manage and reduce emissions and climate change impacts.
