The DJ Basin, where we hold more than 400,000 net acres in northern Colorado, contains our largest U.S. onshore field at Wattenberg. Development is focused on horizontal drilling in the Niobrara and Codell formations, which produces strong returns for Noble Energy due to low operating costs and a high contribution of oil and natural gas liquids. Production from the DJ Basin represents over a third of our total Company volumes. With a focus on continuous improvement through integrated development planning and enhancements in drilling and completion procedures, we are accelerating long-term growth plans in the DJ Basin.
We are actively applying new technology in our operations, including the use of horizontal drilling to increase recoveries of liquid-rich hydrocarbons in the Basin. Our well completion and fracing strategies are improving production and reducing our drilling times. While continuing to deliver substantial growth in the DJ Basin, Noble is testing substantial upside in the play through lateral downspacing and an increased use of extended reach lateral wells.
The Company is currently implementing its Integrated Development Plans in both the Wells Ranch and East Pony areas of the play. These IDPs are designed to maximize efficiencies in drilling, completion and gathering activities, while reducing the Company's overall footprint.
